TIME CRITICAL

YOUR COMMENTS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The USFS is proposing changes and additions to our local Trail System.

Comment Period ENDS – DECEMBER 19th
A Public Meeting was held December 5th.

Excerpt from the Scoping Letter:
“This project would improve the trail system within the Red Rock Ranger District by adding approximately 39 miles of non-motorized trail through new construction, adoption, and re-alignment of non-motorized trails across the district in three communities: City of Sedona; Village of Oak Creek; and Cornville. (See attached maps.) This proposed project would construct 24.42 miles of non-motorized trail; adopt 14.80 miles of user-created routes; and naturalize 10.14 miles of user-created trails.

All trails would be closed to motorized use and open to foot, bicycle, and equestrian use, unless noted otherwise. Trails would be managed as Class 3 trails, per the Forest Service National Trails Classification System, to maintain a narrow tread with a rugged character.”

The Trails being impacted by this proposal are:

  • Turkey Creek System (Verde Valley School Road areas)
  • Bell Rock Area Bypasses
  • Cornville School Trail
  • Doe Mesa Loop
  • Hardline Trail
  • Scheurman Trail Connector
Details of the proposals may be found in the following three documents.  Although documents 2&3 are listed separately in the USFS Letter dated November 21st, they appear to be the same.  Both are included here for completeness.  Please read the following information from the USFS, including maps.
  1. USFS Letter dated November 21st.
  2. USFS Scoping Letter dated November 20th.
  3. USFS Proposed Trail Enhancements dated November 20th.
