Trail Revisions Coming Soon from the USFS –
PUBLIC COMMENTARY WILL BE WELCOME –
Today, the USFS planned to release the Red Rock Trail Access Plan, or RTAP for short. Although the release has not yet been posted, we expect that to happen soon, and this email is a “heads-up” on a topic that is of great interest to the community.
The work will include Turkey Creek, Doe, and a handful of other connectors. it’s a significant buildout for Turkey Creek and they will be adding an equestrian turnout on Rector Connector (horses don’t do slick rock very well)… and a few minor tweaks to other trails. The biggie is Turkey Creek.
The online Public Comment period will open the day of the release, and close 30 days after. A local USFS in-person meeting is planned for early December, but no details are available as yet.
When the last decision memo was released for trails 5 years ago, the publicity was extremely light, and much discontent resulted (Rabbit Ears/Dairy Springs build out).
The Big Park Council Executive Board is in direct contact with the Sedona Red Rock Trail Fund, who work closely with the USFS. As soon as either of us hear from the USFS, another email will be sent to you with the details.
